about

This song was written in 1985 with a musician acquaintance of mine, Steve Moore, who was also a friend of my wife's. We ran a folk club together for a while and met a few times to write and rehearse songs for the folk club. This song was written very quickly in less than an hour. The initial musical idea was mine. We couldn't agree on the lyric and decided to write democratically taking turns to write lines with me trying to follow Steve's sweet lines with something sour. There wasn't any hostility in this process as we both liked the song that was emerging and came to quick agreements. I still have a tape of the original writing session. I think I might have posted that original recording on Myspace. We lost touch later in the 80s or early 90s and I heard he has since passed away. R.I.P.

lyrics

My Way Of Thinking

Let’s forget about yesterday
That’s what she thinks and that’s what she says
She knows of better days on the way
I suppose I do but it’s just my way of thinking

And when she tells me that I’m the best
I hear the words but I’m not impressed
I tried so hard but I failed the test
Oh I’m not sure that it’s just my way of thinking

I don’t mean to doubt your words
But maybe they’re better left unheard
Doesn’t mean the feeling’s not there
Oh I don’t know if it’s just my way of thinking

And maybe baby in a little while
When the man has left the child
I’ll return and I’ll make you smile
Oh I don’t know but it’s just my way of leaving

Here I go down the yellow brick road with the lion and the Scarecrow
Oh, la la la la la la la la la la
